Research and development

In accordance with the company's philosophy, research and development occupy an important position at Louis Widmer. We owe this to our customers. Research and development also guarantee the future.

Louis Widmer invests an above average proportion of turnover in research and development. The in-house research and development departments concentrate on applied research. It was recognized very early on at Louis Widmer that, in addition to our own research, cooperation with others is very important and often rewarding. Only in this way can the results of basic research be incorporated promptly into development.

Louis Widmer has cooperation contracts with university institutes specializing in pharmaceutics, physics and chemistry as well as with private research institutes. We also work closely with dermatologists in clinics and independent practice.

Right from the year we were founded we have cooperated closely with dermatologists. In Switzerland, our skin care products were the first to be co-developed and clinically tested with dermatologists.

We also supply our customers with a unique allergy service which had been built up with pharmacists and dermatologists. These services make it possible to continually optimize the tolerability of our products. One of the things that has been of great benefit in this process has been the fact that Louis Widmer has always listed all the ingredients of the product on the packaging. Louis Widmer chose to do this long before there were any legal requirements.

We are constantly looking out for new developments in the extensive field of dermocosmetics and dermatological preparations which can be
implemented and used for product development, manufacture or use. We regularly inform our partners, clients and consumers of recent developments.

Courage to be independent

The management and staff have the courage and believe to be independent. Even in these hectic times of takeovers and mergers, any company that offers useful and high-quality products and is a competent partner for its clients will be successful in the long term. In order to meet these requirements for products and services, Louis Widmer has decided to remain independent. We have no qualms in placing the quality of our products before short-term gain.

The Louis Widmer philosophy lives on

The concept of tradition is sometimes viewed as old-fashioned. At Louis Widmer we believe we should safeguard fundamental principles but at the same time use the most modern means available to improve what already exists and allow the influx of new ideas.

The Louis Widmer philosophy is fundamental to us. It also lives in the family tradition.

Credo and the future

Our principal responsibility is towards the
people who use, recommend and prescribe our products. We must ensure that our products are always of the highest quality, as effective as possible, and optimally tolerated. The products must always reflect up-to-date scientific knowledge. We must ensure that they are used properly. Prices should be set appropriately for the product.

Our second responsibility is to our stockists. We give the stockists all the information they require and support their endeavours. We are a reliable partner and offer our stockists fair margins. We respect their efforts at training and client advice in that we only supply the specialist market.

Our third responsibility is to the physician. He also receives all the necessary information on the products he issues in order to ensure correct use.

Our fourth responsibility is one to our staff. They should be allowed to develop according to their abilities in a motivated environment. The remuneration and social rewards should be fair and adequate. The workplace should be equipped so as not to present any risks of accidents. In particular, we treat all our staff with respect.

Our fifth responsibility is to the environment and society. We care about the environment and resources, both in our production process and in our products themselves. We keep the environmental burden to an absolute minimum. We are a fair and responsible taxpayer and we are proud to be based in Switzerland.
